Water Quality Reports

Water Quality Reports

Each year, a water quality report is created for each of the districts. The water quality report provides important information to know about drinking water and how it relates to your health, as well as the most recent testing results. The testing results table only includes results for impurities that we detected in the water.

The utility tests for hundreds of different chemicals and minerals on a regular basis, but most of those tests come back as Non Detect, which means that the lab was unable to detect any of that particular impurity in the water. At the bottom of the report is a section dedicated to informing you about any violations that the utility has received from the state over the last year.

IMPORTANT NOTE Water quality reports cover testing for the previous year! Each report will be published in May or June describing the previous year’s data. The links below will always take you to the most recent report published for each service area

Understanding Your Water Quality Report

What We Test For

Unified Alaskan Utilities conducts comprehensive testing for:

  • Microbiological Contaminants - Bacteria, viruses, and parasites
  • Inorganic Contaminants - Salts and metals (naturally occurring or from urban runoff)
  • Organic Chemical Contaminants - Synthetic and volatile compounds
  • Radioactive Contaminants - Naturally occurring radioactive materials
  • Disinfection Byproducts - Formed during water treatment processes

Non-Detect Results

Most of the hundreds of contaminants we test for come back as “Non Detect” (ND). This means the laboratory equipment could not detect any trace of that particular substance in your water supply. Only detected impurities are listed in the water quality reports.

Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs)

All water quality reports show detected contaminants compared to EPA Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs). Our goal is to maintain water quality well below these federally established safety standards.

Violations

If our utility receives any violations from the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, these are disclosed at the bottom of each annual report, along with corrective actions taken.
