Service Areas
Field of View
The Field of View service area provides water to over 60 customers off Wasilla Fishhook Rd. A single well to the north west of the subdivision off En Dove Rd provides high quality groundwater that is delivered to customers completely untreated.
Homestead
The Homestead service area provides water to over 180 customers in peters creek, as well a selling water to the Meadow Ridge water utility up the hill to the east. A single well provides high quality groundwater that is lightly chlorinated before being delivered to our customers. While the chlorination is not required, the piping infrastructure is aging and beginning to leak which can allow bacterial contaminants into the water supply. Chlorinating the water ensures that no harmful bacteria can make it to a customer’s faucet.
McKinley View
The McKinley View service area provides water to nearly 50 homes off Oberg Rd in Chugiak. The water is produced from a single groundwater well and is distributed to customers untreated.
Midtown Estates
Midtown Estates provides water to over 180 customers off the Palmer-Wasilla Highway near Trunk Rd. Water service is provided by two groundwater wells and is treated for corrosion control before being pumped out to customers.
Moorehand
The Moorehand service are provides water to over 70 customers in South Anchorage. This service area was historically served by a pair of groundwater wells, however those wells produce arsenic in concentrations that are no longer considered safe by the EPA. Due to the high cost of designing and building an arsenic treatment facility, continuing to use the two wells was determined to be infeasible. Instead, a connection to the city water supply was installed and the wells left inactive. Currently, the Moorehand service area purchases all of its water from Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility (AWWU) and delivers that water to its customers.
Settlers Bay
The Settlers Bay service area provides water to nearly 600 customers in the Settlers Bay neighborhood, as well as providing wastewater collection services to some customers in the same area. Water service is provided by 2 ground water wells and is chlorinated before being served to customers.
Sherwood
The Sherwood service area provides water to over 40 customers near Pittman Rd. in Wasilla. A single well produces groundwater that is rich in iron and manganese. Chlorine is used to oxidize the iron and manganese and bring it out of solution, and then a filtration system is used to filter the oxidized particles out of the water before it is pumped into 3 large water storage tanks. From there, the water is pumped out into the distribution system to the customers home.
Vallenar View
The Vallenar View service area provides water to the vallenar view mobile home park in Ketchikan. Water is pumped out of the nearby Whipple Creek and is then heavily filtered and chlorinated. The treated water is then stored in two large storage tanks and is then delivered to the park. In some cases, usually after large storms, the water in Whipple Creek gets stirred up and the treatment plant can not adequately filter the water. In those cases, water from the city of Ketchikan is trucked in to ensure water quality standards are met.
