Why would my water service be disconnected?

Disconnections & Reconnections

Water service can be discontinued for non-payment, unsafe facilities, water waste, fraud/abuse, unauthorized turn-on, or other tariff violations.

The utility discontinues water service by turning off the flow of water at the keybox. The utility disconnects water service by removing all or part of the facilities connecting the distribution main to the parcel.

Reasons for discontinuation

  1. Non-payment of bills
  2. Unsafe customer facilities - May be without prior notice if plumbing, appliances, or equipment are dangerous or unsafe
  3. Water waste - If water is wastefully or negligently used seriously affecting general service or not complying with emergency curtailment plan
  4. Fraud and abuse - May be immediately without prior notice
  5. Unauthorized turn-on - May result in disconnection at the main without notice
  6. Other tariff violations - Including failure to provide access to meters, failure to comply with metering program, or breach of special contract
  7. Customer order - When you request service discontinuation

Reasons for disconnection at the main

  1. Unauthorized turn-on of a keybox after discontinuation
  2. Willful and repeated violation of tariff provisions
  3. Violation threatening public health, safety, or system integrity
  4. Connection to another water source

When service will NOT be discontinued

The utility will not discontinue service:

  1. For a prior customer’s delinquency at the premises
  2. If you’re in compliance with an approved payment plan
  3. For non-payment related to a different service location
  4. For failure to pay a disputed amount if you comply with the dispute procedure (undisputed amounts must still be paid)
