Who pays for water main extensions?

Costs for water main extensions are paid by the petitioner, either:

• Directly by the petitioner, OR
• Through an assessment negotiated between the petitioner and utility on a case-by-case basis

Any assessment must be approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.

Financing

The utility may provide payment in installments for assessments if funds are available and your credit is acceptable. The utility may require a mortgage on the property. Interest is charged at 10% per annum add-on interest. The utility may discontinue water service for failure to pay any installment when due.

Main extension agreements

Each main extension requires an individually negotiated line extension agreement between the utility and the applicant, approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska. The agreement must be signed by both parties and any required fees paid before construction begins.
