What inspections are required for new connections?

No service connection or service extension—whether new, repaired, modified, or abandoned—may be backfilled until it has been inspected and approved by the utility or its designated representative.

Inspection requirements

• Schedule inspections at least 24 hours in advance
• Do not count Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or hours between 4:00 PM and 8:30 AM
• The utility will complete inspections within 3 working days of your request
• You or your representative should be present during inspection
• The work must remain uncovered until approved

Inspection fees (Section W-027.9):

• 3/4" up to 2" connections: $122 per inspection
• Larger than 2": $300 deposit per inspection
• Separate fees apply for each service connection and each service extension inspected

If inspection fails:

• Connections must be re-inspected until they pass
• Full inspection fee of $122 (or actual costs, whichever is greater) applies to each re-inspection
• Work must be corrected to meet standards before approval

Backfilling without inspection: If you backfill without utility inspection and approval, the utility may require proof of compliance with applicable standards, which could mean excavating the connection at your expense.

What happens if you’re not present: If you or your representative aren’t present at the scheduled inspection time, the utility will leave a door hanger notice. You’ll need to reschedule and pay a $122 return visit charge.
