The first locate from the water main to the keybox is free. Subsequent locates for the same customer cost $122 during business hours or $172 during non-business hours.


The utility provides locate services to mark their underground water facilities within public rights-of-way or utility easements.

Call 811 before you dig

Alaska law requires you to call 811 before any excavation. Call at least two business days before you plan to dig.

  • Dial 811 or call 1-800-478-3121 (Alaska Digline)
  • Free service that coordinates locates with multiple utilities
  • Prevents injuries, utility damage, and fines

When you call 811, member utility companies (including this utility) will locate their public facilities at no charge. However, 811 members do not locate private facilities beyond the keybox on your property - you must hire a private utility locator for those lines.

What the utility locates

The utility will locate their facilities from the water main to the keybox only. This includes:

  • Water mains in public rights-of-way
  • Service connections from the main to your keybox
  • Utility facilities within utility easements

What the utility does NOT locate

The utility does not locate the water service line from the keybox to any buildings on your property. This is considered a private locate. Please call a private utility locator to locate the water service line on your property beyond the keybox.

  • First locate: Free
  • Subsequent locates for the same project:
    • During business hours: $122
    • During non-business hours: $172

Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm, excluding holidays.

How to request a locate

  1. Call the utility at (907) 222-4084
  2. Describe your project and location
  3. Your contractor or representative must be present at the scheduled appointment

The utility must schedule locates at least 24 hours in advance, excluding weekends, holidays, and hours between 4:00pm and 8:30am.

Your responsibility

You or your contractor are responsible for damage to any utility facility located within 30 inches of utility locate markings.
