How much does a service connection cost?

Service connection costs are calculated on a cost basis, meaning you pay the actual cost of materials, labor, and related expenses. The utility requires an upfront deposit, then bills you for the actual final cost after completion.

Deposit requirements (Section W-027.8):

• 3/4" to 1" connection: $825 deposit
• 1-1/2" connection: $925 deposit
• 2" connection: $1,200 deposit
• Larger than 2": By individual agreement

What the deposit covers:

• Service Connection Permit Fee ($95)
• Plan Review Fee ($190, if engineered plans required)
• Inspection fees ($122 for connections up to 2")
• Locate services
• Other utility costs

Physical connection work: The utility will perform the mechanical connection to the main, install the service line and thaw wire to your property, and install a keybox at your property line. However, YOU are responsible for:

• All right-of-way permits
• Excavation and backfill work
• Right-of-way inspections

Final billing: Within 10 days of completion, you’ll receive a detailed statement of actual costs. If costs exceed the deposit, you’ll be invoiced for the balance. If costs are less than the deposit, you’ll receive a refund of the balance.
