Do I need a permit to connect to the water system?
Yes. You must get a Service Connection Permit ($95) from the utility before connecting to, repairing, modifying, decommissioning, or abandoning any water service connection.
You cannot connect to, repair, modify, decommission, or abandon utility service connections without first getting a connection permit from the utility.
Service Connection Permit Fee: $95 (Section W-027.15)
What you need to apply:
- The permit fee ($95)
- Your name, address, and phone number
- Legal description of the property to be served
- For private systems, multi-family buildings (more than 2 units), branched service extensions, or commercial structures: engineered plans stamped by a professional engineer registered in Alaska
- Evidence of any required permits from other government agencies
Plan Review Fee: $190 (if engineered plans are required) - Section W-027.16
The utility will issue the permit if your application and proposed construction meet tariff requirements and applicable law.
