Can the utility enter my property for inspections?

Yes. After 3 days' notice and during reasonable hours (8am-9pm), you must grant utility representatives access to your property to inspect water facilities, sample, test, or examine records.


You must grant admission to your property after 3 days’ notice and at reasonable hours (8:00 AM to 9:00 PM) to properly identified utility representatives for the purpose of inspecting facilities connected with or owned by the utility, including sampling, testing, or record examination.

The utility may set up devices on your property that are necessary for sampling, testing, inspecting, or compliance verification.

Cross-connection inspections: You must permit a properly identified utility representative to enter your premises at all reasonable times for random testing and inspection of backflow prevention devices to ascertain that no cross-connection contamination risk exists.

If you deny access:

If you do not provide properly identified utility employees reasonable access at the time requested:

  • The utility will notify you by placing a door hanger or other written notice
  • The utility may attempt to notify you by telephone or other means

If access is not available after 24 hours from posting or delivery of written notice:

  • The utility may discontinue water service pursuant to W-025
  • Service remains off until you provide satisfactory assurances of future access

Charges:

  • Return visit fee: $122 per visit necessitated by restricted access (Section W-027.7)
  • Turn-on fee to restore service: $122 (business hours) or $172 (non-business hours) per Section W-027.1
