Can one service connection serve multiple structures?

A single service connection can serve multiple structures on the same parcel if the utility approves a branched service extension. This arrangement requires you to accept responsibility for all structures served by that connection.

Requirements:

• The structures must all be on the same parcel (single property)
• You need utility approval for the branched service extension
• You must accept responsibility for paying the bill for monthly water service to each structure
• Engineered plans may be required for approval

Billing for multiple structures: When multiple dwelling units or structures are served from a single service connection, the applicable rate is multiplied by the number of units and billed to you as the customer. For example:

• 3 residential units × $76.94 = $230.82/month (flat rate)
• Commercial and residential combinations use combined rates

Standard rule: The standard is that each structure should be served by a single service connection. Where multiple structures occupy a single parcel, there should normally be one service connection for each structure—unless you’ve obtained approval for a branched service extension.

Alternative option: Instead of a branched service extension, you could request multiple separate service connections (one for each structure), with utility approval. This would create separate billing for each structure.
