We are pleased to announce that on July 2nd, 2020, Mile 8 Utilities, LLC was purchased by Unified Alaskan Utilities, LLC. UAU is a growing utility formerly known as ALPAT Water Utility with service areas in Anchorage, Chugiak and the Mat-Su Valley.
Northern Utility Services provides operation and management services to UAU and will also provide services to Mile 8 Utilities. Northern Utility Services has a good reputation in the drinking water and wastewater community and is committed to serving Mile 8 Utilities with excellence. As you can imagine, transitions of this size can have a few errors. If you find something is incorrect, give us a call and we will make things right.
Water bills will be both mailed and emailed on the first few days of each month. The emailed bill will be received about 4 business days before the paper bill. The due date of the bills will always be the 4th Monday of each month. To receive electronic notifications and billings, we strongly suggest you update your contact information at NUSalaska.com under the “Apply for Water Service” tab.
We are also pleased to offer electronic payment options for your convenience. To pay online with a credit card or checking account, go to NUSalaska.com and click on the “Pay Your Water Bill” button. A one time registration is required, and can be completed by choosing the “Register” button and then choosing “Mile 8 Utilities”. You will need your email address and the balance of your bill. The system only works if ONE email is registered to your account. If two emails are set up, it will cause errors. Once registered online, you can make payments and/or set up auto-pay and view your history of electronic payments. Payments by check are not visible, so please contact customer service to inquire about payments made by check. The ONLY day for the auto-pay is immediately before the due date. We cannot change the date of the auto-pay.

Mile 8 Utilities will continue to be regulated by the RCA, and they will continue to monitor the utility’s financials to ensure rates are appropriate. UAU does not have any plans to raise rates in the immediate future, however, two 50% subsidized, low interest loans have been obtained to perform renewals and upgrades to both the water and sewer infrastructure. Once those projects have been completed and any efficiency gains have been documented, it is possible that rates will need to rise modestly to service the new debt and keep up with inflation.
